2. Desenvolupament…

Oliver Diaz attended the training course “Achieving Quality in Diagnostic and Screening Mammography”

Last week, the member of the Image Analysis Laboratory Oliver Diaz attended the training course “Achieving Quality in Diagnostic and Screening Mammography” as part of his Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellow. This course, the 8th within the EUTEMPE·RX series for medical physics experts, was held at the Dutch reference centre for mammography screening (LRCB), Nijmegen, The Netherlands. During 5 days, all attendees got an overview of a number of breast imaging technologies from a range of specialists: medical physicists, epidemiologists, CAD engineers, radiologists and radiographers. Several topics were covered, such European protocols to measure image quality for mammography and breast tomosynthesis, estimation…

International Experience: Ferran Roure

These last three month were different. The past 23th of September I took the plane to London to spend the last part of the year working at UCL (University College of London). Located at the center of London, UCL is one of the main European universities (with more than 30000 students and up to 6000 researchers). With professor Niloy Mitra I began an interesting project about applying 3D registration methods for environment reconstruction. The main idea is apply these methods to rescue robots in order to achieve good 3D reconstructions without any sensor or extra information.        …

On our way to Chicago: Annual Meeting #RSNA15

This year, the Radiological Society of North-America (RSNA) celebrated its 100 anniversary and the VICOROB group wanted to join the celebration. Dr. Joan Martí, Dr. Robert Marti and Eloy Garcia (PhD Student) flew to Chicago to attend the annual meeting of the RSNA. From medicine to CAD systems, the RSNA meeting was a look back at the evolution of radiology and a look ahead to its future.   During that week, radiologists and researchers from around the world, introduced the latest research in radiology, medicine and medical imaging. Breast, brain, gastro, heart, any organ of the body was represented.  Magnetic…

After hard work, good advances on breast cancer detection

On the 2 and 3 of November Barcelona was witness to the last meeting of ASSURE, a research project funded by the European Commission within the 7th Framework Programme. ASSURE includes 10 European partners from 6 countries, including ViCOROB, and its main goal is to investigate personalised breast cancer screening. During the last 3 years, techniques such mammography, magnetic resonance and automated 3D breast ultrasound have been studied to improve breast cancer detection. This has produced more than 30 scientific publications, 3 patents and a large number of software tools which are currently being tested in clinical facilities.    …

Vicorob participates in the ECTRIMS Congress in Barcelona

This year, the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) has celebrated the 31st edition here in Barcelona. This is an annual Multiple Sclerosis  international conference where all the biggest research groups from both medical and image research fields show up, thus it makes this event an perfect place to do networking, learn which are the latest news on the topic, and obviously promote the latest contributions of the research to the society.     The brain medical image team in VICOROB has attended it with a great participation, presenting four posters with the results of the…

FP7 European Project MORPH: Demonstration of Cutting Edge Co-operative Underwater Robotics System in the Azores

From 31 August to 11 September 2015, the Center of IMAR of the University of the Azores is hosting the final demonstration of a new type of robotics-based distributed sensor system, aimed at affording marine scientists and commercial operators a revolutionary tool for marine habitat mapping in complex underwater 3D environments. The trials form the ultimate project demonstration of the EC research project MORPH, entitled Marine Robotic System of Self-Organising, Logically Linked Physical Nodes.   Launched in February 2012, the 4-year research project MORPH is funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme and Industry with a budget of 8,5…
