Established in 1984 and held annually, the conference joins experts in the field of robotics and automation for technical communications through presentations and discussions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ViCOROB participated in the conference, once again. <a href=\"http:\/\/vicorob.udg.edu\/vicorob\/members\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Narc\u00eds Palomeras<\/a> presented the work \u201cAutonomous Mapping of Underwater 3D Structures: From View Planning to Execution\u201d, and <a href=\"http:\/\/vicorob.udg.edu\/vicorob\/members\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eduard Vidal<\/a> presented \u201cOptimized Environment Exploration for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles\u201d. Eduard was also<strong> awarded with a Student Travel Grant from the Robotics and Automation Society<\/strong> (RAS) to participate in the event. Both works are related to <strong>underwater robotic exploration and view planning.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6450\" src=\"https:\/\/vicorob.udg.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/WORKSHOPS-AND-TUTORIALS-IEEE-International-Conference-on-Robotics-and-Automation-2018.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"785\" height=\"442\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vicorob.udg.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/WORKSHOPS-AND-TUTORIALS-IEEE-International-Conference-on-Robotics-and-Automation-2018.png 785w, https:\/\/vicorob.udg.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/WORKSHOPS-AND-TUTORIALS-IEEE-International-Conference-on-Robotics-and-Automation-2018-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/vicorob.udg.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/WORKSHOPS-AND-TUTORIALS-IEEE-International-Conference-on-Robotics-and-Automation-2018-768x432.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We took that opportunity for visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csiro.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the center of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization <\/a>(CSIRO) located in Brisbane. This organization is an independent agency of the Australian federal government in charge of scientific research.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A former Ph.D. from the Vicorob group, Emili Hern\u00e0ndez, is now a Research Engineer at the Autonomous Systems Lab in CSIRO<\/strong>. Emili introduced us the staff, the facilities and the main research lines in which the Autonomous Systems Lab is working on. We also presented them the work done by the<strong> Underwater Vision and Robotics group<\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.udg.edu\/ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Universitat de Girona<\/a> in a talk open to all the researchers in the center. Despite their research is more focused<strong> on aerial and mobile robotics<\/strong>, they have also a lab in charge of <strong>underwater vehicles<\/strong>. Additionally, explored possible collaborations, such as the possibility of financed research stays for masters students.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The experience has been satisfactory and we hope that future colaborations can arise from this first contact.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) took place in Brisbane, Australia, from 21 to 25 of May.
