New project in breast cancer imaging

Vicorob has secured a project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. The project, titled “Virtual Clinical Trials and Pre-clinical Experiments for Optimizing New Imaging and AI Algorithms in Breast Cancer,” aims to advance breast cancer screening techniques.

Breast screening has had a significant impact in reducing mortality rates, with standard mammography being the most commonly used method. However, there is still room for improvement, especially in certain women populations, which can be achieved through emerging imaging modalities and computer aided diagnosis systems. These systems are based on deep learning and have shown comparable results to radiologists, but their robustness remains an issue.

The team behind the project is made up of experts from the University of Girona and Complutense University of Madrid in medical physics, radiology, artificial intelligence, software development, and computational genomics.

The goal of the project is to develop AI algorithms based on deep learning, machine learning, and image analysis to enhance the imaging and diagnosis processes of breast cancer.

The development of AI algorithms in the field of breast cancer screening has the potential to improve the accuracy and efficiency of diagnoses and ultimately save lives.
