PhD studies in Technology

The main objective of the PhD program studies in Technology is the formation of the students in developing an original research project, or PhD thesis, in various fields of technology, experimental and theoretical, which will give the right to obtain the PhD degree.

Master programs

IFRoS is aimed at a new generation of engineers who will develop new applications and tools to expand the capabilities of field robots in the near future. The technology behind these systems comes from different research areas such as artificial intelligence, computer vision, control, sensorization, machine learning, manipulation, all of them under fast-paced evolution in the current digital revolution. IFRoS addresses the lack of master programs dedicated to intelligent robots and, more specifically, to field robotic systems.

Unlike industrial robots that operate in factories, in isolation and where the environment is predictable and adapted to the robot’s task, intelligent robotic systems must cooperate with or replace humans in complex tasks and in unstructured and often unpredictable environments. The Master in Intelligent Robotic Systems (MIRS) is a university master’s degree that aims to train a new generation of engineers who will develop new applications and tools to extend the capabilities of these intelligent robotic systems, in the near future. The technology behind the development of these systems comes from different areas of knowledge such as artificial intelligence, computer vision, control, sensing, machine learning and others, all of them under rapid evolution in the current digital revolution. The MIRS is a two-year master’s degree with 120 ECTS promoted by the UdG.

Medical Image Analysis and Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) systems, in close development with novel imaging techniques, have revolutionised healthcare in recent years. Those developments have allowed doctors to achieve a much more accurate diagnosis, at an early stage, of the most important diseases.

Technology behind the development of CAD systems stems from various research areas in computer science such as: artificial intelligence, machine learning, pattern recognition, computer vision, image processing and sensors and acquisition.
There is a clear lack of MSc studies which cover the previously mentioned areas with a specific application to the analysis of medical images and development of CAD systems within an integrated medical imaging background. Moreover, the medical technology industry has detected a growing need of expert graduates in this field.

Image processing and analysis, together with artificial intelligence, are currently key fields for advancement in medicine, biotechnology, health and wellness. Research and the development of tools in these fields have numerous direct applications in industry, where the needs are ever greater. The Master in Medical Image Computing (MIC) is a 60 ECTS master’s degree that was created with the idea of offering high quality education in the fields of artificial intelligence and the development of software applications for computer-aided diagnosis in medical environments, as well as providing an introduction to robotic applications in this environment. The MIC master’s degree offers innovative and up-to-date academic content, which will allow students to lay the foundations for their future professional development. The MIC professors are actively involved in research, and are leaders in the field both within Spain and internationally.
