This year 19th BMVA Computer Vision Summer School 2014 was held in Swansea, UK from 30th June till 4th July 2014. The delegates attending the summer school were from universities all across Europe. All the delegates were PhD students in their first or second year. VICOROB research group was represented by Ferran and I Habib, from 3D perception Lab.

Swansea University, located along the coast of Swansea bay, was the host. The event was aptly managed by them. We were exposed to the state of art in Computer Vision by talks delivered by some of the leading researchers working in labs across UK, i.e. UCL, Imperial College, Microsoft, Image Metrics etc. The topics covered ranged from Image formation, Low level vision, Feature extraction, Tracking, Segmentation to Medical Imaging, Machine Learning, Cognitive Vision and Performance evaluation. Besides lectures, two intriguing lab sessions were also held on ‘Efficient Programming’ and ‘Decision Forests’. Every afternoon, after lecture sessions, all the participants went for dinner in restaurants in Swansea, while having a walking tour of the city as well. It was a work and fun packed week, definitely recommended for future PhD students.

The attendance of ViCOROB members to the summer school was financed by ANDREA project (reference: CTM2011-29691-C02-02) of the Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad.
