AI4SEA is a multidisciplinary research project focused on developing an AI‑embedded robotic system for the autonomous mapping, monitoring, and restoration of underwater habitats, with Posidonia oceanica meadows as the main use case. The project combines marine robotics, embedded AI, and ecological science to enable intelligent and scalable interventions in degraded ecosystems.
ViCOROB leads the subproject AI4AUV – Artificial Intelligence for AUV-based underwater habitat restoration, developing a dual‑arm Intervention AUV with onboard AI for autonomous perception, decision‑making, and manipulation. Our team integrates deep learning, reinforcement learning, and edge computing to allow the robot to operate independently in complex underwater conditions. AI4SEA demonstrates how robotics and AI can contribute to sustainable marine ecosystem management.
Project partners include UIB (AI4MAP – Embedded AI for underwater habitat Mapping), UPC (AI4MON – Embedded AI for continuous MONitoring of underwater habitats), and CSIC (AI4ECO – Scientific validation of the AI-driven methodology for Marine habitat Assessment and Restoration).
