Six members of ViCOROB attend the Breaking the Surface summer school in Croatia

BtS (Breaking the Surface) is a summer workshop that encourages interaction and the exchange of knowledge and experience about the maritime robotics field and its applications. In 7 days, participants get first-hand knowledge about the latest in scientific research and results, technological achievements as well as hands-on experience in working with complex and modern underwater systems.   In the event, Nuno Gracias and Ricard Campos gave a tutorial on “Omnidirectional vision for underwater robots”. Successful participation of our team in European Robotics League competition 2017

ERL Emergency 2017 occurred in Piombino on 15-23 September, is an European Robotics League competition or what researchers calls Champions League of Robotics, instigated by the catastrophic nuclear accidents that touched Fukushima, Japan, in 2011. The challenge collecting among 130 participants from 16 universities and companies, came from 8 European countries. In the competition, robots from different domain: air, land and sea cooperate in order to complete a task within a set period. We obtain the 4th position in two of the MICCAI 2017 conference challenges

The 14th of september, VICOROB presented two convolutional neural network methods to the iSeg and White Matter Hyperintensities challenges from the MICCAI 2017 conference. The first challenge was aimed at segmenting brain tissues from infant brain MRI, while the second one was aimed at segmenting vascular white matter hyperintensities of adult brain MRI. The first approach was presented orally by Jose Bernal and the second one was presented orally and as a poster by Mariano Cabezas. Doctoral thesis “Case-level detection of mammographic masses” By Meritxell Tortajada Giménez Supervised by Jordi Freixenet and Robert Martí   Abstract This thesis is focused on the automatic detection of masses in FFDM images by using case-level information which includes bilateral, temporal and/or ipsilateral information. As a first step, FFDM images are preprocessed to improve image quality before working on the proper detection framework. A novel enhancement method is applied to compensate the thickness reduction in peripheral edges of the breast in FFDM.
