ViCOROB combines top level research with technology transfer, focusing on basic and applied research projects. Research at ViCOROB intends to tackle them from the theoretical, observational and experimental viewpoints and is conducted by the following labs:

Underwater vision and robotics

After 20 years doing research, Girona Underwater Vision and Robotics team has become a benchmark in Europe for the design and construction of autonomous underwater vehicles, and the development of cutting edge software for the processing of visual and acoustic data.

Image Analysis / 3D perception

The Image Analysis line is commited to developing and optimizing methods (including both hardware and software developments) for analysis of data, with particular focus on the study of medical images. To this end, we develop computer algorithms which include techniques such as image segmentation, pattern recognition, object detection and characterization, statistical signal processing, and registration.

The 3D perception line has a wide experience in camera modelling and camera calibration which also includes the computation of the intrinsic and extrinsic camera parameters. The study of the epipolar geometry through the estimation of the fundamental matrix is also a key point in the research interests of the lab. Contributions have been done in movement estimation by means of the differential epipolar geometry. The main application is in the field of mobile robot navigation by means of stereo vision especially solving the so-called Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) using video cameras.

UdigitalEdu

UdiGitalEdu is an emerging research group at the University of Girona. Our team develops projects in the areas of education and technology with a distinctive multidisciplinary approach.

 

We design activities and workshops that combine technology, science and art in order to encourage creativity, critical thinking and teamwork. Our aim is that children and young people are no longer just consumers and users of technologies; we would like them to become creators and producers, learning to use technology to express themselves creatively.
